Seminar - Former Soviet Union Hydrocarbons and Magnetics

Public 1-day program to be offered
in Houston or elsewhere

Date: On Demand

Location: to be announced

Cost and registration: see below

minimum participants=10

In 1992, Dick Gibson and James Clarke conducted a 3-day seminar entitled Oil & Gas Exploration Plays of the Former Soviet Union. Dr. Clarke now offers his portion of this seminar as a separate 1- or 2-day program, and Dick Gibson offers a 1-day program focusing on the magnetic map and its interpretation. For more information on Dr. Clarke’s program, contact him at 914 Leigh Mill Road, Great Falls, Virginia 22066, phone (703) 759-4487, FAX (703) 759-3754.

Gibson’s 1-day program is a detailed overview of the magnetic data set and its interpretation, with emphasis on the geologic meaning of the data and the relationship to hydrocarbon resources. The program includes discussions of the regional tectonics and hydrocarbon systems of the Former Soviet Union. New purchasers of the complete basement tectonic package receive ten full days of consulting by Gibson, which may be structured to include this presentation or some variation of it.

For our public course in Houston: Existing owners of the basement tectonic package may send one participant in the 1-day program for $100. For all other participants, the fee is $250. A minimum of 10 total participants is required, and preregistration is necessary. Contact Dick Gibson for more information.

Discussions of the magnetic interpretation can also be incorporated into Gibson’s 3- to 4-day course, Introductory Gravity and Magnetics in Exploration, a general program for geologists covering potential-field interpretations. A small portion of this FSU seminar is also included in our Architecture of the Continents program. For those who are not purchasers of the complete package of former USSR studies, if you are interested in one of these programs, let us know and we will provide more information and a quote for an in-house presentation. A public program will be devised if there is enough interest.
