Online Gravity and Magnetic Interpretations
by subscription
from Gibson Consulting
This web site is your source for detailed regional tectonic interpretations of published gravity and magnetic data. The interpretations are available on a proprietary, non-exclusive basis, by paid subscription to password-protected areas of the web site. The site is designed to provide ready access to play-level and basin-scale information about diverse areas of the world based on Dick Gibson's more than 25 years of interpretation experience. The interpretations to be included represent several years of work, and we plan to significantly update the USA and USSR interpretations to incorporate non-copyrighted illustrations and new information.

Plusses and Constraints
PLUS This is intended to be a very inexpensive way for companies to access regional studies. How can it be so cheap? Can it be worth anything? Typical consulting and internal charge rates are approaching or exceeding $1000 per day, and the initial contents of this web site will represent over 20 man-months of work, with "list" prices totalling $70,000 in hard copy. We offer low-cost access for two principal reasons: First, the original proprietary period for the initial products to be included (USA and USSR) has expired. We believe that they still have significant exploration value, and as they are readied for the web, there will be updating of the work that will be significant in some areas. Second, Gibson Consulting is now in a relatively low-overhead situtation which allows us to offer this work at low cost. The "coming attractions" listed below will be substantially new interpretation products, included at no additional charge for subscribers (except for the On-Line Grav-Mag Course).
PLUS Subscribers will enjoy e-mail support in terms of explaining, expanding, or qualifying the interpretations — i.e., there is a human behind the electronic product! This support is explicitly via e-mail, and does not include any travel or telephone consultation.
PLUS Subscribers will receive a reduced rate for proprietary interpretation work in areas covered by the web site, using data provided by the subscriber, with confidentiality guaranteed of course.
CONSTRAINT The on-line interpretations must rely on published data, of variable resolution and quality. There are many high-quality public-domain data sets available, including satellite-derived gravity for the world's marine areas, but all such data have lower resolution than proprietary data. Nonetheless there is abundant information in the public data, and it is our intent to make exploration-oriented interpretations of them available.
CONSTRAINT This work reflects Dick Gibson's prejudices. (A few complimentary folks might call this a plus!) Although the projects are integrative structural and tectonic studies, combining available gravity, magnetic, and geologic data with information from the literature, this does represent one person's view. This is one reason for making available continuing e-mail support and consultation for subscribers.
LIMITATION Initially, the on-line interpretations will be "flat," essentially on-line, illustrated hypertext reports. We plan to include georeferenced GIS-style fliles for downloading, but at this time no guarantee can be made regarding the time frame for such improvements.

Areas Covered
Initial Content (planned to be on-line by January 1, 2002)
We do not plan any kind of proration for specific sub-areas. It's all or nothing! The on-line versions will include all exploration areas, but will not, for example, include the magnetic map and interpretations in outcropping shield areas of Russia. Maps will be portrayed in smaller illustrations than the original hard copies (which are 60x90 cm sheets for the FSU). However, we do plan to update the reports with new information and new illustrations where available.
Coming attractions:
- South China Sea
This joint Bird Geophysical-Gibson Consulting product will be available ONLY to companies that own the hard copy version. It will be an on-line version of the report, with illustrations. Companies must subscribe to the primary service to obtain this additional benefit, which comes at no additional cost.
- West Greenland
- Alaska - North Slope et al.
- Hungary Gravity and Magnetics
- Satellite Gravity Interpretations
North Sea, Falkland Islands, Deltas of the World, and elsewhere
- China magnetic interpretation
- Grav-Mag expressions of World Thrust Belts
- On-line Gravity and Magnetics Short Course
$450 per subscribing company surcharge, any number of accesses, regular e-mail interaction with Dick Gibson, over a specified 2-month period. Because this on-line course will rely on many of the interpretations within the subscription package, it will not be available to non-subscribing companies or persons at this time. E-mail interaction for this course is not available in June-July-August.

Schedule
The plan is to have at least the inital products (USA and USSR) on-line and available by January 1, 2002. To subscribe at that time, both the subscription fee ($3000) and the annual fee (see above) must be paid by this date. Subscriptions will run on a 12-month basis and may begin at any time after January 1, 2002, though any annual fees paid before January 1, 2002, will apply to 12 months beginning on that date.
During the course of the rest of the first year, it is expected that some of the "coming attractions" listed above will be added to the web site, but no specific guarantees can be given. However, with a minimum of four subscribers by January 1, 2002, it is quite certain that at least several of the products listed in "coming attractions" will be added by the end of the first year, or at least in time for annual subscribers beginning January 1, 2002, to benefit from the projects.

Arrangements and Rights
There must be one person in each subscribing company designated as the official contact person for this project. Ideally it would be a gravity & magnetics person, but this is not a requirement. This person would be responsible for providing the passwords (and other information we distribute) to interested parties within the company. We may change passwords from time to time to maintain security, so it is important that the designated person keep records of those with access.
While it is our expectation that the primary users of this web site will be oil companies, contractors and consultants, including our "competition," who are in the business of doing gravity and magnetic interpretations for sale to others are welcome to subscribe as well, subject to use restrictions that will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
The simple, plain-English version of Rights follows. Unless otherwise indicated, Gibson Consulting retains all ownership of interpretations offered for access through this program. Subscribing companies have unlimited rights of access for their own employees or specifically designated consultants working for them. Companies may download and print out specific sections and/or illustrations from our web site for internal use only, including showing but not giving digital or hard-copy versions to bona fide partners or potential partners in exploration or production ventures, provided that our lable stating ownership is included in all such copies. This right of copying expressly does not extend to copying significant portions of the information on the web site for the purpose of circumventing the annual fee; and no Gibson Consulting interpretations may be sold, published, traded, shown in public presentations, or given away without our express written permission.
Gibson Consulting is sensitive to on-line copyright issues. We may utilize published maps that are not in the public domain; if this is the case, it may be necessary to ensure that subscribing companies also own such published maps. If a company does not own such a map, Gibson Consulting will provide such maps as part of the subscription at no additional cost, or will otherwise ensure that no copyrights are violated.
